A ragtag bunch of ten children are determined to save their crumbling school from a powerful tin mining corporation. Set on a colorful and lushful island of Belitung off the east coast of Sumatra, The Rainbow Troops is a vigorous modern-day fable that highlights the power of multiculturality and resilience in the face of a great adversary.

The Rainbow Troops (Laskar Pelangi) is based on a bestselling Indonesian novel of the same name by Andrea Hirata. The English translation of the book was published by Sarah Crichton Books in 2013 and won the New York Book Festival Award in that same year.

“If you've ever been afraid to dream or disbelieved in the true power of learning, read The Rainbow Troops, and you'll be changed by the two guardians and their small number of students, whose intelligence and vibrancy will intoxicate you.” —Ishmael Beah, author of Cost

Riri Riza is a renowned filmmaker who directed several Indonesian classics, including Sherina's Adventure, Gie, and Athirah.
